100 years ago: “Cave Basin town is growing very rapidly and if it keeps on it will soon be necessary to extend the city limits. Four new residences completed last week and three more will be finished tomorrow.”

75 years ago: “Members of Durango’s city council decided to sponsor a parking lot on Main Avenue for the convenience of the shoppers who drive downtown. The council will rent the vacant lot immediately north of the B.K. Sweeny store on the east side of Main Avenue in the 1000 block.”

50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Girl About Town: “Purely gossip: Who are the men on the construction team that presented the lady of the house next door a box of chocolates? It seems she brought them coffee in the morning and lemonade in the afternoon as they went about their work.”

25 years ago: “A tentative agreement with VanDal Enterprises would reopen the landfill west of Durango by Aug. 1. The landfill was closed by the commissioners on June 1.”
