100 years ago: Joe and Ernie Enderman attended a preliminary hearing in Justice Maddox’s court for thieving 100 sacks of grain from the Wiseman ranch. After waiving examination, they were relocated to the district court at Bayfield, where the case was dismissed.
75 years ago: Wallace G. Mollette returned from Denver having passed his physical examinations for enlistment in the United States navy. Ordered to return to Durango on temporary recruiting duty, his rank of chief yeoman was to be confirmed from Washington, and he would be sworn into service in Denver.
50 Years Ago: Purgatory issued an advert calling ‘packers’ to the resort to maintain the base. Chet Anderson said he wanted packers at the base of the hill by 9 a.m. Those who showed up received the remainder of Saturday’s skiing, along with another future day of skiing, free.
25 Years Ago: Purgatory ski resort workers Jeff Willbanks, Roger Ross and Joe Partain erected a new snow-depth indicator at the corner of Main Ave. and Camino del Rio. The sign will provide ski conditions of Purgatory for winter seasons. The device was welded by Jeff Willbanks.
