San Juan College Harvest Food Hub to give away trees

San Juan College in Farmington will give away free trees to the community through the San Juan College Harvest Food Hub beginning Wednesday.

The SJC Harvest Food Hub was recently established and works with farmers and businesses to increase sales and consumption of locally grown produce. The Hub distributes produce ordered by community members weekly at the Quality Center for Business off of College Boulevard.

San Juan College’s grounds crew has grown more than 700 trees in twenty varieties to give to community members and students. The bare root will be wrapped in burlap, ready for planting immediately. Trees available include ponderosa, black walnut, white oak, Arizona cypress and more.

Trees may be pre-ordered through the San Juan College Harvest Food Hub through an electronic form from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays for Wednesday pick-up. The free trees will be available for pick-up from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Sept. 16 from the Harvest Food Hub, 5101 College Blvd.

To pre-order a tree, visit www.harvestfoodhub.localfoodmarketplace.com or call (505) 566-3119 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday or Sept. 14 for Wednesday pick-up.
