The Boarding Haus will move from north Main Avenue to downtown in May.
Boarding Haus owner John Agnew is remodeling the former home of Inferno Board Shop at the corner of 10th Street and Main Avenue and expects to continue renting snowboard gear and selling skateboards, bikes, snowboards and other gear. Tune-ups for gear also will continue to be offered.
“We’re going to be the same shop that we always were,” he said.
However, some small tweaks to the inventory might be part of the move. For example, he may stop carrying paddle boards.
Agnew had been looking for a new space for the last year in anticipation of his lease expiring in a few years. After Inferno closed in March, he saw the space go up for rent and he thought it would make a good new, permanent home.
The location will offer a bit more visibility and he expects the business will see more walk-in customers.
“Hopefully, we can take our existing customers and gain some new ones,” he said.
The new space is a bit smaller, with 1,400 square feet, compared to the 1,800 square feet the business occupies at the shop on north Main Avenue, but Agnew said he plans to use it creatively.
“Definitely, the inside is getting a makeover,” he said.
Agnew is putting in a platform to feature retail products and new sliding doors that will hide storage space. Both are made out of beetle-killed pine, so they have a bluish hue.
The outside of the building will remain largely unchanged, although he may put on a new awning.
Representatives of Inferno could not be reached for comment on the business’ closure.
