The Durango High School boys lacrosse team kept firing in New Mexico on Saturday.
One day after beating Santa Fe Prep 16-3 in their season opener, the Demons (2-0) won 16-0 against Sandia Prep (0-2) in Albuquerque.
“It was a good trip getting to play a lot of guys and getting a good mix of guys into it,” DHS head coach John Robinette said.
Jared Cook led the DHS attack with five goals. Kyle Robinette added three goals and two assists, and Liam Millar also scored three goals with one assists. Jacob Boyle had a hat trick of goals.
Duncan Whitley won seven groundballs, five of which came on faceoffs. DHS dominated the game, winning 42 groundballs to Sandia Prep’s 10 and sending 35 shots on goal to Sandia Prep’s eight.
The Demons used multiple goalies in the game, and they combined to stop eight shots.
Coach Robinette was happy to see his squad perform well in their opening two games with young players getting quality playing time, but he knows it will get tougher two weekends from now against Steamboat Springs and Summit at Canyon View Park in Grand Junction.
“We know we have to come hard at practice the next two weeks and get ready. All the games are going to be much harder from here on out,” he said.
