The Salvation Army recently hired a full-time on-site coordinator, Carla Wood, and has leased a subsidized office from the city of Durango in the Tech Center.
The organization’s services have expanded and now include rental assistance and security deposit assistance.
The organization is requesting help for this year’s bell-ringing season. People are needed to sign up bell ringers and corporate sponsors to kettle match.
This year, Salvation Army has helped 678 community members with $11,004 in energy outreach, $320 in City Market cards, $41,210 in security deposits, $106 in lodging, $302 in medical assistance, $33,124 in rent assistance, $19,179 in transportation and $7,970 in utilities assistance.
The expansion of services and client contact in Durango is directly related to having a full-time Salvation Army representative.
Those interested in joining the cause to prevent homelessness may call Wood at (303) 918-3020.
