The best the Ignacio High School girls soccer team could do was keep the Wolverines at a dull glow, then breathe a sigh of relief.
Bayfield beat the Class 2A Bobcats 4-0 on Tuesday in Bayfield.
“We played well defensively,” IHS head coach Oscar Cosio said. “Keeping Bayfield to four goals – they’re known for lighting it up, and we contained them for four goals.”
When the teams met a month ago, BHS won 9-0.
Still, on senior day for the Bobcats’ final game of the season, Cosio said there was a bit of a weird vibe on both sides of the halftime ceremony for winless Ignacio (0-11).
“Energy was kind of like ‘Ah, last one.’”
BHS (11-2-1, 9-1-1 Region 5) has one game left in the regular season before the Class 3A playoffs: Pagosa Springs at 4 p.m. Friday at Wolverine Country Stadium.
