Best bets this weekend include the Skate Ski Clinic and New Year’s Eve festivities at Purgatory Resort.
With snow predicted for Friday, the Purgatory Nordic Center is poised to host its Skate Ski Clinic at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Nordic Center is located just north of the resort entrance across U.S. Highway 550.
Weather predictions are calling for 3 to 8 inches of snow for Friday, which would help the Nordic Center open its doors for the season. It has been closed because of a lack of snow.
Skiing clinics are offered for all levels and ages, from those who have never strapped on a ski boot to those who are looking to improve their skills.
The cost is $25 with a season pass and $30 without a pass. Attendees are asked to call the Nordic Center at 385-2114 to confirm availability. Updates about Saturday’s clinic will be posted on www.durangonordic.org.
On Monday evening, ski instructors at Purgatory Resort will ski down the mountain with torchlights as a precursor to a fireworks show.
The New Year’s Eve Fireworks, Torchlight Parade, Rail Jam and Party will get underway at 6 p.m. with music lasting past midnight.
The Rail Jam will start at 6:30 p.m. under the lights in the DC Terrain Park where local talent will showcase their skills. At 9 p.m., Purgy’s bar and restaurant will have live music and dancing with no cover charge.
The resort is located at 1 Skier Place. For more information, visit bit.ly/2EveNib.
