Bayfield's head volleyball coach, Terene Foutz, won't be alone at the All-State Games.
She was chosen by the Colorado High School Coaches Association to guide one of four all-star volleyball squads at next weekend's 59th Annual All-State Games in Alamosa. Now-graduated senior middle Kirstie Hillyer and BHS Assistant Coach Tom Jensen will join her at the games.
"Terene and I had talked about it when we heard," Hillyer said. "And I think it will be good, you know, because I'll be playing for coaches I'm familiar with."
Action is slated for June 13, with semifinals slated for 9 and 10 a.m. inside Adams State University's Plachy Fieldhouse, the third-place match at 1 p.m. and the finale at 2:30.
3A Gilcrest Valley's Rene Aafedt and assistant Michelle Chacon will coach another team, as will 1A Elbert's Dale Miller and Penny Hish, with 4A Colorado Springs Mitchell's Sharalee Burr paired with 2A Cedaredge's Heather Dunbar to guide still another.
Including the Colorado State-bound, Honorable Mention All-American Hillyer, Jensen will aid Foutz in directing a crew comprised mainly of spikers from CHSAA's smallest three classifications, though Montezuma-Cortez standout Naomi Pinnecoose gives the roster added 4A/Four Corners flavor.
Swink's Leah Roberson helped the Lions go 25-1 in 2014, as SHS dropped only seven games.
3A Buena Vista teammates Corina Scott and Winter Bardol will also join the team, as will 3A Parachute Grand Valley's Kyra Chenoweth, Kristian Curtis of 2A Westcliffe Custer County, and Allie Beiriger and Tanaia Hansen of 1A's Mosca Sangre de Cristo and Eads.
Parker Ponderosa's Becca Page rounds out the team, having helped PHS to an outright 4A/5A Continental League crown.
Bayfield went 23-4 but was eliminated from the 3A championships during pool play by Manitou Springs.
