A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Telluride, Silverton, Rico and Hesperus until 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Road conditions cleared enough Tuesday for the Colorado Department of Transportation to briefly lift the chain law on U.S. Highway 550 at Coal Bank and Molas passes. CDOT announced they were lifted shortly after 11 a.m. – but they went back into effect at 11:47 a.m.
The law, which requires commercial vehicles to use chains, also remains in effect on U.S. Highway 550 at Red Mountain Pass and on U.S. Highway 160 at Wolf Creek Pass, according to CDOT.
The snow is expected to increase in intensity Tuesday afternoon, with an addition 5-10 inches expected in the high country by Wednesday afternoon, the Weather Service said.
