Sales-tax collections in Durango rose by 1.7 percent in February, compared with a year earlier. It was the best showing for February in at least five years.
January sales-tax revenues were even stronger, showing a 7.5 percent gain, compared with January 2014.
The Business Improvement District had particularly good news. The Central Business District in January brought in a record $758,000. North Durango also raked in its highest amount ever for the month, $288,000.
City collections lag actual sales by one month, so February’s report reflects sales that occurred in January.

Overall, the city collected $14.1 million in sales tax in 2014, a 5.1 percent increase from 2013.
