FLC to live-stream beetle presentation

Spruce beetles live and feed underneath the bark of the tree in the phloem layer. A presentation presented by the San Juan National Forest Service will be available to live stream on Fort Lewis College’s YouTube channel on March 17.

Fort Lewis College will live-stream a San Juan National Forest Service presentation on the spruce beetle epidemic and its impact on Colorado forests.

The presentation is set to start at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Vallecito Room in the Student Union. There is no cost.

The college’s YouTube channel www.youtube.com/user/FLCDurango will carry the live stream. The presentation also can be seen directly at www.http://youtube/DXHZcybbQQo.

A Colorado State Forest Service report last year cited the spruce beetle as the state’s most widespread insect threat.

An estimated 485,000 acres have been affected by 2014.
