As we stand on the brink of a climate disaster, with our attention distracted by a global pandemic, what is not needed is one more attempt to politicize the single greatest issue of our time, as a recent writer to the

Climate models offer the only way to understand the consequences of burning fossil fuels. But the warming is documented by measurement, not modeling. The planet will be hotter still by up to 8 degrees by the end of the century if we do nothing. The physics is very clear. By the way, the modeling used to simulate future climate is of the same sort that lets you know what the weather will be in five days – just much more complex.

In the not-too-distant future, nearly all of our energy will come from renewables, because we cannot afford to put all of the carbon contained in the earth’s fossil fuel reserves into the atmosphere in the face of the certainty of ecological collapse. Everyone’s goal – Democrat or Republican – should be a livable planet.
