Special Olympics seeks donations

Special Olympics Durango needs financial support and is seeking donations from the community to fund its 2019-2020 volleyball, basketball, softball and cycling seasons. It serves more than 25 athletes with intellectual disabilities from La Plata County.

Money raised will pay for gas, van rentals, hotels, meals for competitions in Grand Junction and/or Denver, as well as paying for uniforms, equipment and storage. The program is completely staffed by volunteers. They are faculty from Fort Lewis College and community members who undergo a comprehensive training and background check from Special Olympics.

Checks should be made out to Special Olympics Colorado with a note in the memo line for Durango Local Program and may be sent to Cathy Simbeck (call 946-6302 for email/address) or online at Colorado Gives: Durango Special Olympics. A thank you note and receipt will be provided with a tax-deductible acknowledgment letter in accordance with IRS and state tax regulations.
