Letters: Porter-Norton for county commissioner

I support Marsha Porter-Norton for La Plata County commissioner (District 2) because she is forward-thinking and has the experience to lead during these times.

She was recently characterized in a Herald article as being involved in Operation Healthy Communities and “nonprofits.” This is true and in talking with Marsha, she is very proud of her nonprofit experiences including volunteering for over 10 of them in our county.

However, the Herald missed a major part of her resume that is important. Marsha has headed her own consulting business and had the same job for over 20 years. She is a professional facilitator with vast experience in mediating public conflict. I know this because I participated in meetings with her where she organized and managed a complicated issue surrounding how the Little Molas Lake Area would be managed by the Forest Service. I was on the committee as a representative of the Colorado Trail Foundation. During this process, Marsha kept the discussions on track and relevant. She did not pick sides. In my opinion, she was competent to the extreme.

This woman knows how to bring differing sides together. Marsha’s resume should not be shortchanged in the interest of defining candidates and their backgrounds in a few short words. Marsha is the leader we need in these uncertain times. I’ll vote for her.
