It’s Summer Reading time at Pine River Library!
The seven weeks of programs will focus on the nationwide theme of “Libraries Rock.” There will be a kickoff event and sign-up party in the library park from 5:30 to 7 p.m. June 22 with a free barbecue dinner and outdoor fun for all.
For the littlest ones, Wee SRP will run from 10 to 11 a.m. every Monday and Wednesday and will feature songs, fingerplays and dancing for babies, preschoolers and caregivers. Kids’ programs at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays will include instrument craft workshops, world music dance parties and movie sing-alongs.
From 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, there will be a new program, Family Read Aloud Hour, which will feature three junior novels read by library staff over the course of the summer. Special events for kids throughout the weeks will include a family drum circle, water play and rock painting in the park; magic and comedy with Anne Lincoln; and a puppet show with Meghan Casey.
Teen programs will run from 12 to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and will include gaming, outdoor activities in the park and movie showings.
An all-ages Gamer Club (computer and table-top) will run from 1 to 3 p.m. every Monday.
The adult program will feature diverse events including a self-defense class and a travelogue series about Greece, Turkey and Italy. There will be multiple concerts for all ages in the library park, including a quartet from Music in the Mountains (July 25), bands from Stillwater Music (July 29, with free barbecue lunch), and local pianist Jonas Grushkin (Aug. 1).
Back by popular demand, the library will show three outdoor movies: “Moana” on June 29 and “Coco” on July 27, then “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” on Aug. 24 at the library and “Black Panther” on Aug. 10 at the Forest Lakes Rec Center.
Everything will wrap up with a final party Aug. 18 that will be combined with the fourth annual Zucchini Festival.
Participants can sign up online through the “Events” tab of the library website, at the front desk of the library or at the Sign-Up Party.
Rock Star teen volunteer applications are also now available at the library front desk for teens 12 and older who would like to volunteer during the Summer Reading Program.
