Local seniors, we have your services

September is National Senior Center Month! If you’re new to La Plata County or have recently celebrated your 60th birthday, you might not be aware of new, exciting opportunities available to you as a senior citizen.

It’s as easy as getting on Google and typing in “La Plata County senior services.” From there you can visit the website to access information and services provided by our county’s three senior centers in Durango, Bayfield or Ignacio.

You’ll discover opportunities for lifestyle enhancements and valuable information by checking out the newsletters available for the Durango and Bayfield centers (sorry, but the Ignacio newsletter online is not available at this time). Or, just call one of the senior centers listed in the phone book for hours of operation and make a visit.

Volunteer opportunities are available at the centers and at the La Plata Council on Aging (COA). COA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in the Durango Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave., and serves our county’s senior citizens.

For more information about us, or to join COA, call us at 970-551-0582. We’d welcome your call.
