Best bets for the weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include the Dandelion Festival and Durango Derby on Saturday and a benefit for Garden Project of Southwest Colorado on Sunday.

The 10th annual Dandelion Festival will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Rotary Park, 1565 East Second Ave.

This event will celebrate spring, honeybees, wild foods and organic land stewardship, featuring a May pole dance, live music, kids activities, educational classes, belly and hula dancing, healing dome workshops, vendors, local food, local merchandise from Dojo Bags, dandelion-inspired beer and bicycle-powered lemonade and ice cream.

Proceeds will go to organic land stewardship practices and health for honeybees in La Plata County.

On Friday before the event, a wild food dinner will be held at 6 p.m., and herbalist Brigitte Mars will give a free talk at 7:30 p.m. at Turtle Lake Refuge, 848 East Third Ave.
