100 years ago: “Yesterday’s Farmington train was about 10 minutes late getting in. On the way down, about ½-mile south of Flora Vista, the front wheels on the tender’s first truck got on the ground while the train was going at fair speed and before Engineer Mike Hurley could stop his train, about 125 new tiles, recently installed, had been broken up.”
75 years ago: “After hovering near death for several days in a Durango hospital with a bullet wound in his liver, a 15-year-old boy of Kline will be taken to his home almost completely recovered from his wound. A 16-year-old shot him with a .22 caliber rifle after an argument over a small group of strayed sheep.”
50 years ago: Bondad – “A grass fire which started about 25 yards from the Bondad Store shortly before noon destroyed one house before La Plata County volunteers could bring the blaze under control.”
25 years ago: “At least 400 swimmers have been turned away from the Durango Municipal Pool in the last 10 days because of overcrowded conditions. But Parks and Recreation officers think they may have the problem solved by opening the facility to 300 people a day instead of the normal capacity of 250 people.”
