Artists invited for Pagosa exhibit

The Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership will host an environmental art exhibit at the Backroom Wine Bar during the Pagosa Verde Symposium and the Colorado Environmental Film Festival Caravan. Artists whose work addresses, reacts to or interacts with the broad idea of environmentalism and environment are invited to submit their work.

The exhibit will be on view July 25–28. Artwork may be for sale, and the artist will keep 70 percent of purchase price and the Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership will keep 30 percent. Artwork will be insured while on view at the venue.

The submission deadline is midnight Sunday, and selected artists will be notified Tuesday. Artwork must be delivered to or arrive in Pagosa Springs no later than July 23, and artists are responsible for all shipping costs.

The juror is art critic, curator and writer Leanne Goebel.

Theater campers to stage ‘Giant Peach’

Durango Arts Center’s Theater Camp will present “James and the Giant Peach” at noon July 19 and 20. The play is a stage version of the Roald Dahl novel and is directed by Molly Mook-Fiddler.

Eagles to be featured at Photography Club

Durango Photography Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Banquet Room at Holiday Inn & Suites, 21636 Highway 160 West. The first hour of the meeting involves announcements and features a monthly presenter, and the second half is spent critiquing photographs that are submitted by members and guests keeping in theme with a monthly challenge.

The monthly presentation for July will be “Eagle Exposures” by Robert Winslow. Winslow will discuss his exposure settings while photographing eagles in Alaska. He also will talk about his experiences photographing “wildlife models” at “Game Farms” as well as many of his international travels to photograph animals in the wild.

Artisan group to hold benefit sale

The local artisan group Style ’N Stones will hold its ninth Annual Jewelry Sale and Benefit from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 19 in the Barbara Conrad Gallery of Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave. The Arts Center will be the 2013 beneficiary of the proceeds from the sale of handcrafted jewelry designed by six local artists.

The $20 cover charge at the door and 30 percent of all sales go to support DAC programs.

Style ’N Stones members are Basia Daney, Susie Fisher, Pat Lorenzen, Nancy Macho, Mary Orsini, Carolyn Plested and Gail Short (in memoriam).
