Pine River Shares needs food, funds

Group helps local families in need

The fourth annual Pine River Shares Food, Friends and Funds drive is underway.

Residents in the entire Pine River Valley are asked to give what they can to support Pine River Shares food programs, including the BK4K Backpack program in the schools, free food pantry, community potlucks, cooking classes and more. The Pine River Shares mission is to strengthen our communities for everyone, with the philosophy that "When everyone shares, no one goes without!"

Last year, Pine River Shares volunteers filled more than 2,100 backpacks to send home with students on weekends, and provided food bags for 550 households from Vallecito to Arboles. The group hosted community potlucks in Bayfield and Ignacio, and picnics in Forest Lakes and in Arboles for the TARA communities.

With the need growing, plus the holidays and winter fast approaching, it's time to fill our shelves.

Collection spots for non-perishable foods are located around Bayfield in places like Family Dollar, The Grocery Store and the schools. You can also stop by the Bayfield Family Center office at 357 N. Mountain View to donate.

Cash contributions are very much appreciated at P.O. Box 993 in Bayfield.

Pine River Shares is fortunate to have a generous local donor who agreed to match all funds received this month, so even small gifts are precious.

Every dollar stays right here to help us take care of our own. For information, call 884-4747.
