The attendance at all of the March for our Lives on March 24 was great.
In the near future, I hope the conversation will include civilians killed by AR-15s and other lethal weapons in wars of yesterday and presently in Syria, Africa and – the list is sadly endless.
Children at an early age need to become friends with their neighbors who live far away – easy to do with digital communications where schools have the opportunity to do this in computer labs. In September 2017, Durango School District 9-R was kind enough to allow me to go into a high school computer lab to encourage students to communicate overseas with friends of the United States and not-so-politically friendly countries. My idea fizzled, and I was told this could work with much younger students.
How hard is it to start digital pen-pal programs with third-graders? If friendships started early worldwide and lasted for many years, the desire to go to war would (simply) end.
I am trying to put together a teacher fundraiser that could become a template for other communities. The goals are to have funds to cover school projects that typically come out of the pockets of teachers and use additional funds to keep digital pen-pal programs alive.
