Creature Comforts will celebrate its 32nd anniversary with a free event from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Centennial Center at 305 South Camino del Rio.
Four Corners Broadcasting will do a live radio remote, and there will be drawings, door prizes, food, and more. More than 20 pet food vendors and experts will be available to answer questions and give samples. Free ice cream cones will be available in the afternoon.
The La Plata County Humane Society, Annie’s Orphan’s, and D-SNIP Spay & Neuter will have booths with dogs and cats available for adoption. Creature Comforts will partner with Papa John’s Pizza to raise money for animal rescues by selling pizza by the slice.
Customers will also be able to donate their change by rounding up on purchases at the register. For more information, call 247-2748.
A free Medicaid training workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
The event will feature two morning and two afternoon sessions, each with a different focus. Medicaid Overview will run from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and Medicaid Eligibility is scheduled from 10 to 11:30 a.m. There will be a Medicaid Long Term Care section from noon to 1:30 p.m. and a training on specific issues from 2 to 3 p.m.

The Ignacio Farmers Market will hold its grand opening beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the ELHI Community Center, 115 Ute Street in Ignacio. Local growers and producers will be present to sell their wares.
The market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 25. For more information, call 563-4100.
