Woman taken to hospital with minor injuries

A vehicle rolled into the Animas River early Friday evening, injuring its owner.

The Jeep Patriot was parked on a gravel area near 32nd Street for unloading and had been parked for a while before it rolled, said Sgt. Nick Stasi with the Durango Police Department. He said it is unclear why the vehicle rolled.

On its way toward the river, the vehicle knocked over its owner, a 26-year-old Durango resident, who was then taken to a hospital by a friend who was at the scene to be treated for minor injuries.

As the vehicle started to roll, the woman unsuccessfully tried to enter the driver’s door to stop it. She then became wedged between the car and a rock, and the door was folded toward the front bumper.

The vehicle sustained superficial damage and was not leaking fluids into the river, Stasi said. The vehicle is registered in New Mexico.
