75 years ago: “Judge J.B. O’Rourke, who is a member of the Colorado Water Board, received a telegram from Rep. Ed Taylor, informing him that the deficiency sub-committee had approved an additional $400,000 to complete the Vallecito Dam northeast of Durango. ... The money will enable work to continue at the dam this fall and ensuring the completion of the Vallecito project this year or early next spring.”
50 years ago: “Weather permitting, Durango Ski Corp. will conduct tours of the new Purgatory Ski area. All interested persons are invited to bring their own picnic lunch and spend the afternoon.”
25 years ago: “A consultant has found the proposed site for a new city landfill unsuitable, but the county commissioners have agreed to help the city pay for a new site.
