100 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Florida Gleanings: “If the weather is favorable, many of the farmers will commence hay cutting next week.”
75 years ago: “The 16 year old boy who was shot in the stomach by a 15 year old boy in a quarrel over sheep is still holding his own in his fight for life at Mercy hospital. The 15 year old shooter who has never been to town before will see his first picture show in company with the sons of Deputy Sheriff Fred McLaughlin. He will see ‘Hopalong Cassidy’ in a western drama.”
50 years ago: “Work remains shut down at all but one of the major construction sites in the area, as negotiations for a new contract between local unions and the Southwest Colorado Contractor’s Assn. have not concluded. The only project working is the city hall.”
25 years ago: “Officials estimated that between 300 and 400 people attended the benefit for the Allison/Arboles ambulance emergency medical technicians at Navajo Lake. The event included a 10K run, chili cook-off, horseshoes, dart throwing, carnival, silent auction, balloon and horse riders, water ski show, door prizes and a rib dinner.”
