With the turn of the key in the lock, leaving the day’s business and problems behind, a gay spirit prevailed, each and everyone entering into the gayety.”
50 years ago: “A five-year study shows that the teeth of Durango school children have benefitted greatly from the use of fluorine in the water supply. The study shows that tooth decay in Durango 6-year-olds was reduced by as much as 74 percent compared to 6-year-olds who did not have the benefit of fluoridation during the five-year period.”
25 years ago: “The Democratic candidate for La Plata County commissioner from District 3 who won top primary ballot designation at the April 30 county assembly has withdrawn from the race, a move that guarantees a primary election victory for Bill Westendorff. Darryl Hunt notified the county clerk that he would not seek election stating, ‘I don’t feel I can divorce myself from my family. ... I would have to dedicate my life to the job (of county commissioner) to do it properly.’”
