100 years ago: “Mr. Ferguson, a stranger in Durango, presented to the City Council an application for a saloon license in the old Antler’s Saloon the quarters recently fitted up and known as Bessie Rivers’ property.”
75 years ago: “Mrs. J.F. Sherer was most agreeably surprised when a group of friends ‘dropped’ in on her, surprising her on her birthday, bringing, with their expressed good wishes, a whole delicious luncheon. Following the luncheon, the afternoon was spent visiting and sewing.”
50 years ago: “The prolonged hot spell here, with temperatures between 85 and the lower 90s since June 21, is somewhat unusual, W.W. Davies, Durango’s veteran weather observer said. The hot weather is a little early this year. It usually starts sometime in July.”
25 years ago: “Durango cable subscribers got two more links to Denver with the addition of KUSA-TV and KCNC-TV. ... Better access to Denver news, particularly coverage of the state Legislature, was one of the main reasons for seeking the Denver stations.”
