100 years ago: “Clem Russell will forget the troubles incident to the district clerk’s life for a few days. He was off to his Springs Creek Ranch with all the paraphernalia necessary for shade tree farming.”
75 years ago: “Construction of Wunderlich’s camp near the site of the Vallecito dam has been temporarily shut down. Wages being paid were not up to the scale specified in the contract and it was necessary for the supervisor from the Bureau of Reclamation to order the work stopped until wages are satisfactorily adjusted.”
50 years ago: “Destruction was done throughout Ignacio High School after three Ignacio youths broke into the building. In all, 96 window panes were shattered and six large plate glasses. Other damage included two typewriters and an accounting machine plus an unknown amount of damage to laboratory equipment and other items. Two of the youths are presently in county jail and charges are pending for all three.”
25 years ago: An advertisement read, “Save Brookside Park for the kids ... and Durango’s future. Say NO to the City Council on the rezoning of Brookside Park. You can make a difference.”
