Thank you to those who voted for your newspaper

Election nights usually bring us good news and bad news. As the Rolling Stones say, "You can't always get what you want."

I received some bad news Tuesday night, not just for your local newspaper, but for public access to what's going on in your local government.

Voters in Bayfield agreed with the town board members who said they should just be able to publish legal notices on their town website.

Yes, that is a financial hit, albeit a small one, for your local newspaper, because we made some money running those legal notices.

More importantly, there will be more issues going on now that local voters are not going to know about. It's not like there are a lot of people who attend Bayfield Town Board meetings. In fact, it's usually two or three people, including yours truly, and heck, I can't make all of the meetings.

But the voters have spoken.

To those of you who voted no on 2D and 2E, thank you very much for your support of local newspapers, but more importantly, for supporting keeping public notices in the hands of the public.

Thanks for reading.
