I recently attempted to attend the National Popular Vote panel discussion. It turned out to be a Democratic propaganda-indoctrination session sponsored by La Plata County Democrats (thanks for the pizza) and the Vote Yes on NPV organization.
I was expecting to hear a two-sided discussion of the pros and cons of the issue. Instead, I was met with a stacked deck of the state senator who introduced the bill and two obviously progressive liberal professors from FLC, and a single elected county official, who is not allowed to express an opinion on any election matter.
After listening to them prattle on for about an hour on how wonderful NPV is, I saw that I was not going to hear anything useful and I decided to leave.
One of the panelists challenged me to stay. To this, I said that I didn’t need to hear any more of this Democratic propaganda and that they had left out the fact that the Electoral College was set up to balance out the power of the large-population states with the rights of less populated states, so all votes would influence the election of our president!
Moreover, NPV would ensure Colorado would never have influence on the presidential elections.
If the senator wanted to ensure every Coloradan’s vote counted, he would have introduced a bill that distributed our electors proportionally based on popular vote in Colorado instead of winner-take-all.
I think winner-take-all should be prohibited in the Electoral College.
