La Plata Electric Association recently received awards for newsletter excellence from Colorado Rural Electric Association for its “Watt’s Up” publication, included in the CREA monthly magazine, Colorado Country Life.
CREA holds an annual newsletter competition for the rural electric cooperatives it serves in the state.
LPEA is eligible each year to win writing and photography awards in four categories for its division of cooperatives, plus an overall award of excellence among all co-op newsletters published by CREA.
This year, LPEA received the award for overall newsletter excellence and placed first in all four categories of its division.
Indiana Reed, spokeswoman for LPEA, was highly recognized for her work, and received four first-place awards.
“Indiana Reed is a very talented writer and a trained, award-winning journalist, so she continues to work to make our Colorado Country Life newsletter informative, readable and enjoyable for our members,” Ron Meier, manager of engineering and member relations at LPEA, said in a news release.
Judges at the competition recognized Reed’s articles, including: “Lighting the Darkest Nights” – a profile of how LPEA assisted in the installation of new, energy-efficient lighting for the Southwest Safehouse; “Do You Have One of These?” – a feature about standby generator safety; and “Working Toward Renewable Energy” – an article that discusses how LPEA supports green power.
“This is the first time in a single year we’ve received all the first place awards in our division, as well as the overall award for excellence,” added Meier.
She also received first-place honors in photography for art that accompanied a feature about the support LPEA gave to the new Geosciences, Physics and Engineering Hall (Sitter Family Hall) at Fort Lewis College.
