Red flag warning Thursday for Four Corners

Fire danger rises with dry, windy weather

A red flag warning was issued for Southwest Colorado from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday as a cold front brings gusty winds – and the threat of wildfire – into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, “critical fire weather conditions are expected due to winds combining with low relative humidity and dry fuels.”

Little to no precipitation is expected across the Four Corners, resulting in the red flag warning for all of La Plata County south of Durango, and out toward Cortez and Montezuma County.

Nearly the entire state of New Mexico is under a red flag warning, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents are asked to exercise extra caution with possible fire hazards.
