The nation’s top punter statistically earned a regional honor.
Fort Lewis College punter Scottie Gallardo was named to the Daktronics All-Super Region 4 second team recently as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
CSU-Pueblo punter Brandon Kliesen earned the first-team nod.
Gallardo, a Colorado transfer, led Division II in punting with an average of 46.1 yards per game on 79 punts. His season-long was 77 yards, while nine of his punts went for touchbacks. He had 18 more fair caught, 22 pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line, and 27 carried 50 yards or more.
For those efforts, Gallardo also earned a first-team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection for the 4-7 Skyhawks.
Darius Allen of CSU-Pueblo was Defensive Player of the Year, while quarterback Dustin Vaughan of West Texas A&M was the top offensive player.
A total of 14 RMAC players were selected to the two teams.
