The Skyhawks made it close, for 20 minutes anyway.
Playing against the top team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and defending RMAC regular-season champion Lindenwood, the Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team couldn’t keep up with the offensive attack of its opponent.
The Lions (11-1, 6-0 RMAC) broke a 3-all tie when Morgan Judd scored her 20th goal of the season with 12 minutes, 25 second to play in the first half. The Lions went on to score five more goals in the first half to take a 9-4 lead at the intermission, and FLC never could get closer than 10-6 with 25:50 to play, calling 20-7 in the game played at St. Charles, Missouri.
FLC was outshot 37-19 – 27-13 on goal – and lost 19 of 29 draw controls. Lindenwood also had 22 groundballs to the Skyhawks’ 12.
Taylor Cabrera led FLC’s offensive attack with five goals, giving her 19 for the season. Sara McMahon also added her 19th goal of the year, and Rebecca Miller scored one for her 15th of the season. All of FLC’s goals were unassisted.
Freshman Ally Gurrero (1-1) started in goal for FLC and played nearly 49 minutes before FLC inserted Brie Walker. Gurrero allowed 18 goals and made four saves. Walker made three saves and allowed two goals.
Melissa Menchella led Lindenwood with four goals, and Allison Hurley scored another three. Renee Abrolat and Maddi Ossello each had two goals for the Lions.
Rachel Ortell made four saves and allowed six goals in 42 minutes of time between the posts for Lindenwood. Delaney Solomon came on and made two saves and allowed one goal to close out the game.
FLC will stay on the road to face Rockhurst (4-6, 1-4 RMAC) at noon Sunday in Kansas City.
