Sorrel Sky Gallery uncorks private wine labels for Valentine’s Day

It’s not a stretch to say many, if not most, people who attend art gallery events are there for the free wine. So what’s wrong with a little free publicity from the gallery giving away all that vino?

“For years we’ve wanted our own label with our own artists and artwork,” said Shanan Campbell Wells, owner of Sorrel Sky Gallery.

On Friday, the Main Avenue gallery will unveil four in-house wine labels at “The Art of Wine,” a Valentine’s Day event. The labels feature the artwork of Sorrel Sky artists Carrie Fell (Spring Fever Pinot Grigio), the late Rory Wagner (Charlemagne Cabernet Sauvignon), Cynthia DeBolt (Cloud Bank Chardonnay) and Stephen Day (Open Country California Red). Wells said DeBolt is expected to be on hand for Friday’s event, and the original works from which each label was created will be on display.

Alan Cuenca – of Put a Cork in It – will speak about each of the wines, which come from a distributor in Denver, and the wines will be paired with treats from Animas Chocolate Co.

“I think art, wine and chocolate go hand in hand,” Wells said.

The gallery is not going into the wine business on a retail level and has no license to do so. Wells said the bottles will be those served at future gallery events and given to clients as gifts.
