Construction on Needham project to begin Monday

The Needham Connect project was identified in the City’s Multimodal Transportation Plan as a high priority project along Columbine Drive from Cottonwood Drive to Clovis Drive. The project will improve infrastructure and increase the safety of school children accessing Needham Elementary School.

Needham Connect Phase 2 will involve construction of new sidewalks, calming traffic, bringing curbs into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and improving bicycle facilities.

Needham Connect Phase 2 is funded in part through a Transportation Alternatives Program grant award of $552,192 and a Safe Routes to School grant award of $350,000. The local match of $1,297,808 is provided by the 2015 Sales and Use Tax Fund. The total construction cost is $2.2 million.

The city awarded the construction contract to Ridgway Valley Enterprises Inc. There will be road closures during construction. Residents will be able to access their homes. The city requests they park in driveways during construction. The anticipated construction schedule is as follows:

Columbine Drive from Cottonwood Drive to Needham Circle: May 11 through July 6.Columbine Drive from Needham Circle to Thomas Avenue: July 13 through Aug. 17.Columbine Drive from Thomas Avenue to Butte Drive: Aug. 24 through Sept. 28.
