100 years ago: An advertisement read: “Before you buy a motorcycle see the 1913 Excelsior, on display at Durango Motor Car Co.’s garage. ‘Complete control in the grips.’ Prices F.O.B. factory – Twin, $250; Single $200. 922 Second Ave. A demonstration costs nothing.’”
75 years ago: “Cecil Cauthron, of Bayfield, was a little unlucky in his choice of cars to pass on a curve and cross the orange stripe. Sunday he zoomed by an automobile and it happened to be the courtesy patrol. He was fined $3 and assessed costs of $2.”
50 years ago: This appeared in the section called Girl About Town: “A Durango woman: She’s a warm and gracious woman who looks much, much younger than the age she frankly admits to. Her friendliness and warmth come through even in her telephone voice, which is one of the better ones. Her serene temperament makes her wonderfully easy to get along with. When you say ‘a lovely woman’ it fits this woman whose name is Bonne, Mrs. Graden Weinland.”
25 years ago: Aztec – “U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., has introduced legislation to expand the boundary of Aztec Ruins National Monument from its present 27 acres to 300 acres. The primary objective of the expansion is to protect known archaeological features inside the present boundary and some known to be outside the boundary on private land.”
