And the West is History

100 years ago: “Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Whittaker, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Whittaker and children are at Electra Lake enjoying the bungalow and fish – a cool and pleasant outing away from dust and business cares.”

75 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Sunnyside News: “Mike Pacotti has been assisting Arvil Brown in the hay harvest. Lester Short and his brothers and Tom Magee have cared for the haying at J.M. Nelson’s.”

50 years ago: “Rain and hail, in a heavy outburst, struck Durango just at noon, disrupting electrical service for a while and flooding gutters and streets.”

25 years ago: “The pulse of health services in School District 9-R skipped a few beats, but in the end, board members voted 4-3 to hire a full-time health director. The decision is only a Band-Aid on the health service issue, however, because part of the new director’s job is being a health consultant for the district.”
