Eliza Gilkyson Trio coming to Mancos
Grammy-nominated songwriter and Austin Music Hall of Famer Eliza Gilkyson will perform with her trio at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mancos Opera House, 136 W. Grand Ave., Mancos.
Gilkyson is a politically minded and poetically gifted singer-songwriter known for contemplative, rootsy folk songs. Her songs have dealt with everything from love and loss to families in chaos and the devastation of natural disasters. The Austin-based musician is touring to support her latest album, “The Nocturne Diaries,” which was released in March.
Special guest Melissa Crabtree will take the stage during Thursday’s show, and part of the proceeds of the show will benefit the Mancos Valley Resources.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $22 at the door and are available at Southwest Sound in Durango, Zuma Natural Foods in Mancos or at the door. The show is being organized by Tami Graham Presents.
Looking back at 50 years of the CSWS
Center of Southwest Studies will continue its free summer lecture series this week with a special 50th-anniversary talk.
“Looking Back at 50 Years of Center of Southwest Studies” will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at CSWS Museum, Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive. For this talk, CSWS Director Jay Harrison will interview Fort Lewis College emeritus professor Duane Smith.
Harrison and Smith will talk about the creation of the center, its first director, Dr. Robert Delaney, the collections and the role the center has played in regional studies since its first exhibit.
