Fruita Monument girls basketball frustrates Durango

Snyder has 22 points in Wildcats’ win

Fruita Monument had all the answers to beat the Durango High School girls basketball team Friday night.

Riley Snyder had 22 points, and Kaylee Smith played strong defense all night, as the Wildcats defeated the Durango Demons 46-22.

“Give Fruita all the credit in the world, they took it to us,” DHS head coach Tim Fitzpatrick said. “We didn’t have an answer for Riley Snyder.”

Snyder is a 6-footer who moves like a point guard, Fitzpatrick said.

On the other end, Smith made matters hard on the Durango offense, which was led by Katrina Chandler’s 10 points.

“We did get looks, but they were a lot more rushed, and we didn’t knock down shots,” Fitzpatrick said.

DHS (10-3, 2-1 4A/5A Southwestern League) will look to bounce back from the loss at Fruita Monument (14-4, 2-1 SWL) with a game Saturday at Montrose (10-4, 3-0 SWL).

“We always respond to a loss,” Fitzpatrick said. “We will see how we do. Montrose is a very good basketball team, so we will have to come out and play a little better than we did (Friday).”
