San Juan Basin Public Health adopts new COVID-19 death reporting protocols

In response to changes by Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, San Juan Basin Public Health has made changes to the way it reports deaths to align with the new state protocols.

The SJBPH Data Dashboard, www.sjbpublichealth.org/sjbph-data-dashboard, now reflects the two new reporting categories: deaths among people with COVID-19 and deaths among people who died from COVID-19.

SJBPH has always adhered to CDPHE’s protocols for COVID-19 case investigations, quarantine and isolation and reporting. SJBPH has updated its protocols for reporting deaths effective Monday. These protocols include reporting:

The number of deaths among people with COVID-19. This represents the total number of deaths reported among people who have COVID-19, but COVID-19 may not have been the cause of death listed on the death certificate. The number of deaths among people who died from COVID-19: This represents the total number of people whose death was attributed to COVID-19 as indicated on a death certificate. For more information, visit www.sjbpublichealth.org/coronavirus.
