75 years ago: ”Interspersed with the more serious aspects of the Hermosa trail riders’ trip Sunday were a number of humorous incidents which furnished considerable entertainment and a basis for a running fire of congenial joking. Probably the main event of the day was provided by Chuck Beise – and the remarkable way in which he unloaded from the ‘hurricane deck’ of his horse.”

50 years ago: “The decision of the Colorado State Banking Board to deny the Turner Industrial Bank of Durango a charter as a regular commercial bank has been reversed by District Judge W.W. Rusk of Cortez. Judge Rusk said the Turner Industrial Bank is the third largest industrial bank in Colorado and ‘one of the fastest growing’”

25 years ago: “After working 15 years for La Plata County, Building Inspector Butch Knowlton was still a little surprised when County Commissioners Doris Brennan and Fred Klatt called him into the commissioner’s meeting last Tuesday to award him a 15-year pin. Klatt and Brennan didn’t let on the reason for requesting his attendance, saying they had received some ‘disturbing reports.’
