Arts Center seeks volunteer docents

The Durango Arts Center is looking for art educators and enthusiasts to join its docent team.

DAC Docents is an all-volunteer committee that organizes several programs, such as “Art in the Schools” for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The volunteers share the love of the arts with all ages of artists through their programs.

Interested individuals can contact Chandler Strange at chandler@chandlerstrange.com or call DAC at 259-2606.

Residency program accepting applicants

The Durango Arts Center in partnership with Willowtail Springs Nature Preserve and Education Center in Mancos is accepting applications for its 2015 artists’ residency program.

The DAC In-Residence program is open to artists working in various mediums and residing in La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma, Dolores and San Juan counties.

Through the program, DAC and Willowtail aim to provide one-week residencies for artists to create work against the backdrop of a private nature preserve.

Resident artists are expected to propose and deliver a community offering based on their experiences within one year of their residency. Examples include a lecture, slideshow of work, pop-up exhibition or performance.

Visit www.durangoarts.org/artistresidency for more information, deadlines or to download the application.

Ignacio Library issues call for artists

The Ignacio Community Library has issued a call for artists to submit work to its spring show.

The library welcomes local artists of all abilities and ages to participate. The submission deadline is March 20.

The exhibit will hang from April 1 to June 30.

For more information call 563-9287.

Mountain Middle School seeking art

Mountain Middle School is inviting new and established artists to take part in its fun art Whodunit, an art show and sale.

The goal of the event is to provide art at an accessible price while helping students in the community. It will feature more than 50 original works, each for $100. The mystery – who created the art? – will be solved only after the piece is sold and the artist’s name is revealed.

Participating artists last year included Maureen May, Rosie Carter, Hardison Collins, Elizabeth Kinahan and more.

The show will feature all mediums. Pieces should be submitted no later than Feb. 6. For more information call Leigh Bright at 799-6361.
