Bobcats move into Final 4!

Wolverines playing in consolation on Friday
Junior guard Wyatt Hayes attempts a shot Thursday night in Pueblo against Rye in the Class 2A Great 8 game. The Cats moved into the Final 4.

Talk about a low-scoring first quarter.

It was 5-2 at the end of the first eight minutes.

Even with two small-town teams featuring tough defenses, it was a bit eery.

It wasn't for a lack of trying, but the Ignacio Bobcats weren't making their shots.

"Ignacio can't buy a basket now," noted Ray deKay in his play-by-play of the game on KSUT Tribal Radio.

Worse yet, senior Adison Jones had three fouls in the first half, forcing him to sit on the bench for a good chunk of the game.

It was 15-16 at the half, with Rye ahead.

This was a sea change from the Bobcats' huge blowouts they've enjoyed this year. Most games, they have led at the half by a minimum of 20 points.

Fortunately for the Ignacio fans at Colorado State University-Pueblo, their Bobcats of old came back for the second half.

It wasn't a blowout. Actually, it was pretty close until the last minute or so.

But the Cats pulled out a win, 45-38.

At 5:30 Friday, they face Sanford, who denied them their shot at a 2A state title last year.

After Thursday's loss, Bayfield moves into the consolation bracket on Friday, playing Jefferson Academy at 1:15 p.m.

Bayfield games are on 107.1 Passion radio.

Ignacio games are broadcast on 91.3 on KSUT Tribal.

Scores from both games will be updated here and on the Pine River Times facebook page.
