Construction of pedestrian crossing starts in Mancos

The town of Mancos recently started construction of a new pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Beech Street and U.S. Highway 160.

The project is estimated to last six weeks, and crews are scheduled to work from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Normal traffic on U.S. Highway 160 is not expected to be affected during construction. However, motorists should be aware that the south side of Beech Street and the U.S. Highway 160 frontage road will be closed for about one week, and the north side of Beech Street will likely be closed for two to three weeks.

The new crossing will include a low-height concrete barrier in the center median of the highway to provide pedestrian refuge. The north island will be reconstructed, and a new south island will be added. The Colorado Department of Transportation will also install new signs, crosswalk stripes and solar-powered rapid flash beacons.
