Rich Carlson, owner of Eagle Crane, talks with the crane operator Tuesday morning while hanging lights on the Buckley Park spruce tree in preparation for Friday’s lighting and Singing with Santa event. Eagle Crane donated use of the crane for two days, and Durango Motor Co., La Plata Electric Association and Directory Plus paid the bill for 1,200 new lights. Together with 1,800 salvaged lights, about 3,000 lights have been strung on the tree. Friday’s lighting celebration will begin at 4:45 p.m. with Christmas carols, followed by Santa’s arrival and lighting the tree. Afterward, hot chocolate and cookies provided by Solera Mortgage will be served across the street in Guido’s patio.
