Wolfwood holding wine tasting

This original painting by Kelly Black is available at Wolfwood's annual art auction on Sept. 23 and goes on display this week at Four Leaves Winery.

Wolfwood's annual fundraising month kicks off Thursday at Four Leaves Winery. The annual wine tasting is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 8. Select vintages have been chosen featuring special wolves on the labels. Chuck Blaser will provide music. Four Leaves also makes a donation to Wolfwood for each bottle sold.

The art being offered at Wolfwood's sixth annual art auction on Sept. 23 will be on display at the winery starting Sept. 7. The art auction is in the Grange at the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

The money raised during these September events sustains the refuge during the winter months. This year, Wolfwood's medical costs for 61 animals has doubled, and funds are needed more than ever. A chance to win Kelly Black's original wolf painting is provided with a donation of $20.

Trinity has been Wolfwood's main ambassador animal for several years and she has cancer. She has visited most schools and groups in the area, working with the handicapped and elderly.

Currently, medication providing her some comfort is $20 per pill. Tickets to support Trinity will go on sale at the winery and will continue until Sept. 23 when the winner is drawn. All money raised from the painting will be earmarked for Trinity's medication.

Some of the award-winning artists that are supporting Wolfwood's auction include Edward Aldrich, Hannah Shook, Lori Pedolsky, Rhonda Polsfut, Mimi Bonkowske, Rebecca Koeppen, Roni Alexandar, Monique Holiday, along with the gallery works of Fritz Scholder, Charles Bragg, Mark McDowell, Harrison Begay, Paul Forester, Bill Schenk and many more.

This is the largest collection of art that Wolfwood has ever received. The events also are being sponsored by UltraSteam, Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, CJ Gravel and BP. Ambassador wolves will attend both events.
