100 years ago: The porter at Kent’s barbershop was “mighty sore at Tewalt’s dog, as the dog seems to have taken personal liberties unbecoming any gentleman dog and got the porter and the barber pole mixed.”
75 years ago: The band-tailed pigeon, “once nearly extinct in Colorado,” was apparently “staging a comeback.” J.D. Hart, assistant director of the state fish and game department, said “flocks of the dove-like birds have so increased in number during recent years that residents in some southwestern areas of the state are beginning to demand control measures.”
50 years ago: A Durango motorist was following a tractor-trailer about 10 miles east of Durango on U.S. Highway 160, when a board fell off the trailer into the other lane. The board was hit by oncoming traffic, became airborne and struck the vehicle behind the tractor, causing light damage.
25 years ago: An off-duty officer reported a man who was “running all sorts of stop signs” while driving in reverse on Eastlawn Avenue, Forest Avenue and Crestview Drive.
