La Plata County Thrive! Living Wage Coalition added their hundredth employer to their employer recognition program in March.
To qualify for the program, La Plata County employers must pay their employees a living wage or develop a plan that shows progress to reach that goal.
Almost one-third of workers in La Plata County work in occupations where the median wage is less than the living wage. The current hourly living-wage rate to qualify for the employer recognition program is $12.79.
Employers to join in March include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado, Durango Early Learning Center, Durango Natural Foods Co-op, Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency, Grassburger, Louisa’s Electronics, San Juan Citizens Alliance, Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters, Smiley Cafe, Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center, The General Palmer Hotel, and The Living Tree.
